Overview of the Genesis GV70

GV70 ExteriorGenesis has stormed into the luxury market with bold and powerful vehicles. Genesis jumped into the luxury SUV class with the exciting GV80. Now, they are unveiling a compact luxury SUV, the 2022 Genesis GV70. Every line, shape, and material inside and out of the GV70 were carefully crafted, designed, and perfected resulting in an absolutely stunning design. In order for the all-new GV70 to compete in one of the competitive markets, the GV70 needed to do more than other small SUVs. Genesis did just that. They took the dynamics and engagements usually in sports sedans and put them GV70 giving it a driver-focused SUV.

Exterior of the GV70

The GV70 looks overstated but still so styled at the same time. Genesis continued its bold styling mirroring the rest of the Genesis lineup with two bar head and taillights, large pentagonal front grille, elegant long body lines, and overall sporty look. The GV70 sits on the same platform as the G70 sports sedan making it low and athletic. In my opinion, the GV70 looks very elevated and different from the other vehicles it will compete against. Genesis stepped outside of the box with its long lines that extend from tip to tail, eye-catching wheel design, and oversized exhausts. The bold lines on the front are evened out by the gentle curves on the rear of the GV70. Another exterior feature I like in particular is the lower placement of the license plate. It lets drivers behind you admire your vehicle rather than starring at a license plate.

Interior of the GV70

Open the door to the future of Genesis. The interior of the GV70 is honestly one of my favorites. The full details haven’t been released yet but from photos, the interior looks luxurious. The leatherette feels soft to the touch. Genesis listened to complaints about the G70 cramped back seat and it looks like the GV70 will have more legroom for back-seat passengers. Cargo capacity also looks larger but we will know more information later. The infotainment center is turned for a driver-centered feel. I don’t know how I feel about the display screen being located on top of the dash because it could be in the view field for shorter drivers like myself. I will update more once we get our first GV70 in stock this summer. The display screen is longer than it is wide giving it a true rectangular shape. A new update we are seeing in most new vehicles is the turn dial for changing gears rather than a true shift knob. I think this is something you either love or hate. It does take getting used to in my opinion but give the interior a sleeker and streamline look. In regards to the infotainment and connectivity, we can count on the GV80 to have Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and the high-end Lexicon stereo system. In my opinion, from hearing the sound system in the GV80, it is one of the best sounding systems on the market. The same Lexicon system that was in the GV80 is also being used in the GV70. Genesis has not released the standard and available features yet. The climate controls are located in the center of the dash but they are not so large that it takes up too much space. The GV70 will have two steering wheel designs, a two or three-spoke option. From my understanding, the sport will receive the sportier three-spoke steering wheel. Both are wrapped in that soft-touch leather for a luxurious feel while driving around town. I like the thick feel of the steering wheel in the GV80 so I am assuming it will be similar to that in the GV70.

Engine and Power of the Genesis GV70

Underneath the hood Genesis is offering both a turbocharged 2.5 L four-cylinder and a twin-turbocharged 3.5 L V6 engine. The 2.5 L four-cylinder will be the entry engine which produces 300-horsepower and the larger V6 will come in at 375-horsepower. There will be plenty of power coming from either GV70. A huge bonus is that all GV70’s will be all-wheel drive, yay! Since the GV80’s 0-60 mph came in at 5.3 seconds, I expect the GV70 to make a sprint. Who would have thought that an SUV would possibly be in the 4-second range? There has not been an EPA estimate yet but I will post an update as soon as it becomes available.

2022 Genesis GV70

Everyone seems very excited about having a new luxury compact SUV on the market. I think the GV70 will be a huge hit. Official pricing from Genesis has not been released yet but based on the GV80, it will be competitive in its market.
